I have a some trees and cane(bamboo like not sugar) I could sell or cut into logs.I also have clay ground and a river running through to make mud bricks.not a handyman but it's better living in a house then a tent. can walk into town(here at cafe right now using their LT) and willing to work hard to build it.What can I build?Have land but not enough money to build or buy house but want to live there anyway. what building is cheapest?
The cheapest structure is one you can build yourself, using indigenous materials (whatever resources are provided by the land itself).
You've already started the process by surveying your materials.
Another way to go would be to consider the space you need, and how best to contain that space. Design-wise, the largest floorspace available for the least materials is a dome construction. You might use your bamboo for a geodesic dome framework, which would then be covered. Be aware, though, that a dome will often have leakage problems, due to its lack of pitch in the uppermost roof panels.
The timbers on your property could be felled and peeled, flattened and notched, for a log cabin. It's a lot of work, but a nice cozy house! Be sure to use a stone foundation, so the bottom logs won't rot, and give plenty of attention to the roof -- the most essential part. (Be sure to peel the bark off the logs, too.)
Yes, you could build a form and make clay bricks. Add some straw to the mix, to help their integrity. And for permanence, you can add cement to the mix, too -- 5% is enough to make a big difference. Again, the roof will be an important factor, to keep the walls dry. A natural earthen floor might be OK for now, or you could make clay tiles (and even bake them in an outdoor oven) to have a less permeable surface. Eventually you might want to install a wood floor, with insulation underneath. Be sure to support it with stone or your home-made bricks, to keep it off the soil.
You say you're not a handyman, but you certainly will be soon!Have land but not enough money to build or buy house but want to live there anyway. what building is cheapest?
take a bunch of saplings, bend them in to a hogan , [dome shape hut]
cover it with clay.
dig into a hill side make a cave,
check in to a rent able building, [rent to own]
you can get them 12 ft long 8 ft wide or bigger, i have 2 cabins like that, you can put a full size bed in one or a bunk bed style,
insulate it, use solar lights, make a out house [allowed in tn]
Establish a source of reliable income, then start getting a good credit rating, and then get a construction loan and build the house you need. In other words, get a job, pay your bills on time and borrow the money to build, then get a long term mortgage to pay off the construction loan. As a second choice, contact habitat for humanity and talk with them.
It's not the building of the house that costs so much but the electricity to the property and the plumbing.
a sod house. something similar to adobe...with the clay bricks idea. or rob the cafe and pawn the LT. Just kidding :)
